Runa: The Reluctant Heroine Who Steals More Than Just Secrets

She’s not the chosen one. She wasn’t born with magic or an heirloom sword. She doesn’t want to save anyone or anything, and she most certainly doesn’t want to be a hero. Runa is a friendless thief who uses draperies for tissues, has the manners of a wild boar, and whose first, second, and final instinct is to run away.

In other words, Runa is just about the worst heroine ever.

Yet…if the measure of a hero’s greatness is what they overcome and how they change, what better place to start than at the bottom? Or, in Runa’s case, under a blanket beneath a trapdoor in a pit at the bottom.

Girl’s got issues, is what I’m saying. Ya know, trauma. An orphan with trust issues. A thief with the all the tragedies. What luck, then, to be thrust into a position to face them directly! Whether she wants to or not (she doesn’t).

But don’t discount Runa yet. She’s a survivor. And she’s got heart. I mean, it’s a little banged up, but it’s there. So give her a chance. Maybe she’ll surprise you.

She certainly surprised me.
